Gas Leaks
Natural gas is used to power a variety of household appliances, such as clothes dryers, water heaters, and stoves. However, gas can pose a significant threat to you and your family if handled incorrectly. That is why it is important to contact a licensed plumber to identify the location of the leak and repair or replace the gas line. Fortunately, there are warning signs to be aware of that may indicate that your home has a gas leak.
When looking for signs of a gas leak in your home, take into account that physical signs and smells aren’t always present. Carbon monoxide detectors should be installed on each floor and in each bedroom and keep a fire extinguisher in your kitchen.
Although natural gas has no odor, the gas company adds mercaptan, a non-toxic chemical, to give it a distinct odor. The odor is often compared to that of rotting eggs. The first thing you should do if you suspect a gas leak is to leave the premises.
When you are safely outside, call the authorities and gas company. After contacting your gas company, call Leeson Plumbing at (949) 237-0045 to locate the gas leak and repair the line. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist you with any plumbing emergency.
